BACK FROM THE OUTBACK!
G'day mates!I'm back from darwin, and i have so many things to share with everybody.About the trip, and the daily events that occured in my 11 day stay in the northen territory. It was a wonderful experience, very different from my past visit to australia,5 years ago.Back then,I visited Perth,Melbourne,Sydney,Tasmania, and Magaret River. It lasted for a month, and it was just as magical and exciting as the Darwin trip. The most exciting thing about these trips is that my family never ever go on tours.I personally dislike going on trips with tours,as there is hardly any freedom and time, instead, you are constantly forced to go around with a huge tour group, and you can't do things that you wish to do,due to the time constrain. Thus,it really is wonderful that my father always chooses to rent our own car in aussie, and find our own way around. This time round was no different, and we rented a Toyota Tarago, known as the Toyota Estima here in singapore. My aunt and uncle from taiwan, joined us for the trip and we had to rent a bigger vehicle.Although we were landing in Darwin,we had no intention to stay there, but instead to drive thousands of kilometres to The Red Centre, which is the desert of Australia, also known as the outback. This area in Australia is filled with the native Aboriginal people, who have had a deep spritual and physical connerction with the region for 60,000 years. Its amazing how these aboriginal people survive in the Outback, and it really helped me appreciate the weather here in singapore. The landscape of the Northern Territory is barren, and there is hardly any rain till the December period. The climate is a huge drawcard, with sunny days and balmy nights for most of the year. The centre of australia is visually stunning. From the rich colours of the desert plains to the spectacular gorges and tranquil waterholes of the macdonnell Ranges, this timeless landscape has the world's biggest monolith, the world's oldest river system and ancient rock formations going back millions of years. One of the most famous natural wonders in the world, always being considered to be one of the 8 world wonders,is Uluru, also knows as Ayers rock.As the world's largest monolith,it's massive proportions are a stark contrast to the flat desert surrounds.I had the privilege to spend two days at the uluru, and it was a beautiful experience.I've decided that i want to share my adventure in the Northern Territory, with daily journals here on my blog. Before anybody gets any wrong ideas, the Northern Territory in Australia is very very different from the other parts of australia.New south Wales,Queensland,Victoria State and Tasmania are so different from the Northern Territory. In terms of weather, landscape and scenery,i have to say that The Northern Territory is so different from the other states in Australia that it doesnt seem like Australia at all.It is hot, dry, and it doesnt have the normal, relaxing kind of holiday atmosphere.Unlike the other states in Australia where there are loads of shopping and relaxation that occurs,The Northern Territory has no big cities, only very small towns with populations of just thousands. In my entire 11 days in the North,i hardly saw any families whatsoever, only adults that were dressed for adventure and non-stop action.Nobody that visits the North goes there for relaxation, but for adventure and action. The north has a huge reputation for flies, and they were hugely irritating, hardly leaving you alone. The average temperature in The North was about 43 degrees out in the bush, and it was not cold in the night either. It is usually freezing cold in the Outback in the night, and temperatures can go as low as -6.We chose to visit the Northern Territory at the hottest, dryest part of the year.It is the period of time when hardly any tourists visits that area, due to the immense heat and the flies of course.Thousands of tourists flock to the North in winter, which is in june.So the hotels and the roads were horrible empty when we were there, and you could drive for an hour on stuart highway, without seeing a single car drive past you.So thats just a rough summary of the trip!I hope everybody enjoys the daily journals throughout the 11 days, which i will put down on my blog.cheers mates! :D |
